PLEASE NOTE: The best time to do the Salkantay trek is on March, April, May, June, July, August and September. The weather is dry season and usually you can appreciate the grandeur of glaciar of the Salkantay Mountain. On March, April, November and December, usually is raining (2 hrs or 30 min) and the flora and fauna is best on the trek. This months are HIGH TOURIST SEASON in Cusco. It means that train tickets ARE SELL OUT QUICKLY!! Please be aware that the trek leaves daily; however, return train tickets may not be available, if you like to book on last moment. To avoid this inconvenience, please book it several weeks in advance!. On January, February is low season and It is raining. If you have a lucky, may it isn’t raining.
How far in advance to book Salkantay Trek?
Yes, it’s recommended to book the Salkantay Trek in advance. The trek doesn’t require permits, but reservations can help secure Machu Picchu entrances and train tickets.
Some recommend booking the trek 5–6 months in advance, depending on the season. June and July are the busiest months, so it’s best to book well in advance. During the high season (May to September), it’s recommended to book at least 3 or 4 months in advance to ensure tickets to Huaynapicchu.
The Salkantay 5D trek can only be booked from April to November.
